When Factory Girl was initially developed, we realized (last but not least!) that being a woman and making videogames was still relatively uncommon, and that taking advantage of this untapped resource would open the door to the development of different-and extremely enriching – perspectives within mainstream game culture.
In order to raise awareness of the contribution women make within game culture we have provided a list of links --- learning tools, design tips, scholarships and grants, discussion sites, and communities dedicated to games, media and women.
Women’s culture is a multifaceted phenomenon, so, in order to reflect the diversity of our community, we offer a number of varied approaches, which promote an open environment for discussion and exchange.
Game culture also presents a varied panorama: PC and console games seem to be much more gender oriented than online and mobile games, RPGs, alternative reality games, mixed reality games and virtual worlds; we will try and offer an overview of all of these approaches, in the hope of gaining insight into the potential of diversity.
